For Samsung professional displays running Tizen

Digital signage on your Samsung display

Samsung professional displays have Tizen built in. Lumicast runs as an app on the display itself, so you don’t need a separate media player. You enter one address while setting up the display, with no USB stick. You then manage your content from your browser.

No payment details needed. For Samsung professional displays running Tizen, from 2017 models onwards.

What the app on your display takes care of.

During setup you choose Lumicast as the app the display plays. Switch the display on and it shows your content straight away. And because the app runs on the display itself, you can also control the display remotely.

Starts with the display

Switch the display on and Lumicast opens by itself. Nobody has to pick an app with the remote.

No USB stick needed

You enter one address during setup and the display fetches the app itself. Do the same on the next display.

Keeps playing if the internet drops

Images and videos are stored on the display itself. If the connection drops, that content keeps playing. New content arrives once the connection is back.

Restart it remotely

Something stuck, or a new player version waiting? Restart the display from Lumicast, without walking over to it.

See what’s on the display

Request a screenshot in Lumicast to see what the display is actually showing right now, even when you’re not there.

See which displays are working

Lumicast shows for each display whether it is online, which playlist it is showing and which Tizen version it runs.

What you need

Samsung makes professional displays for digital signage, also called Smart Signage. They run Tizen, so the player runs on the display itself. All you need is:

  • A Samsung professional display running Tizen, from a 2017 model onwards
  • Internet over a network cable or Wi-Fi
  • The display’s remote, for the setup steps

A Samsung TV?

On a Samsung smart TV for home use, you open Lumicast in the built-in browser. That takes a few extra settings, and remote restarts and screenshots don’t work there. If you’re still buying displays, choose a professional model. Or connect a separate player, such as our Pixie for a one-off €150 excluding VAT.

How to set up Lumicast on your Samsung display.

The first time you switch the display on, it runs a setup wizard. There you choose Lumicast as the app the display plays. The display fetches the app and starts it from then on.

  1. Switch the display on

Choose your language and connect to the internet, over a cable or Wi-Fi. Skip the privacy notice with Skip.

  2. Fill in the settings

Follow the wizard and choose what is shown below at each step. Then set a PIN and finish with Done.

  3. Pair your display with Lumicast

Lumicast opens and shows a five-character pairing code. Add a display in Lumicast and enter that code.

Type the whole address in lowercase: the on-screen keyboard sometimes capitalises the first letter. Check the clock too. If it is wrong, the display can appear offline.

Create and schedule your content.

Combine text, images, videos and apps on your page. Start with a template, design it yourself or ask Lumi, our AI designer, for help. Then choose which displays show your page and when.

What does digital signage on a Samsung display cost?

The player runs on the display itself, so there is no media player to buy. Lumicast is a subscription per display.

From €17 per display per month, billed annually, excluding VAT.

Questions about Samsung displays.

Will it work on my Samsung display?

Lumicast works on Samsung professional displays running Tizen, from 2017 models onwards. Not sure about your model? Ask us and we’ll check it with you.

Does it work on a regular Samsung TV?

Yes, through the built-in browser. You set the TV up so it reopens Lumicast when it is switched on and hides the browser bar. Remote restarts and screenshots don’t work on a TV. For a display that is on all day, we recommend a professional model.

Do I still need a media player?

No. The app runs on the display itself. You only need a separate player if you want to show heavier content than the display can handle.

Do I have to install updates myself?

No. The display installs a new player version when it restarts. Lumicast shows which displays have an update waiting, and you can restart them from there.

Will the display keep playing without internet?

Images and videos the display has already stored keep playing. New content and data arrive once the connection returns. Web pages, streams and other content that relies on the internet may not work fully offline.

Can I show videos and dashboards?

Yes. Text, images, apps and video up to HD run well on the display’s built-in Tizen. For 4K video or heavy dashboards with lots of animation, a separate player has more processing power. Try your own content on the display you plan to use.

Do I need a subscription?

You can try Lumicast free for 14 days without payment details. After that, choose a subscription per display. Without a subscription, your workspace remains available, but your displays stop playing.
